Rivet, rivet....

My new bestie

And so begins the process of removing the interior skins.  A bazillion rivets (probably not that much of an exaggeration) must be drilled and removed in some form or fashion.  Even when you drill through them, sometimes they still hang on and must be chiseled off.  All the while trying to save the skins for later use.  We broke a drill bit 15 minutes into it, but managed to not break another.  Somehow the window next to the door got cracked too.  Not sure if it cracked when I tried to open it to catch a breeze, or if by drilling one of the rivets the vibrations caused it.  I'm just not sure...but we'll need to replace it in the future.  We managed to work our way from the door all the way around to just over the wheel well, so pretty much half done.

First panel!  Here we go....

A prototype!

Who woulda thunk that I would find such a cute little Airstream Overlander mini-me at World Market??  Well, that's just what I found last week.  I had seen some pictures of some goodies at World Market that must be geared toward vintage trailer enthusiasts.  When I laid eyes on this little baby, I just had to have it!  I love the red and white striped awning....this is exactly what I want for our Airstream when the time comes.
Even though I think World Market was intending for this to be a "food truck," it's now gracing my living room as a constant reminder of what lies on the horizon for us.
It's even got little propane tanks!!!

Slowly making progress

Well, we got the carpet up and most of the tile out this weekend.  Feels like we've been dead in the water for the last couple of weeks with only the exterior washing getting done.  We were also able to remove the interior wheel well covers.  We then spent the rest of the afternoon getting the barn cleaned out so that we can store the 'Stream there.  Thunderstorm season is upon us now, and getting it under cover is top priority.  Hopefully next weekend we can begin removing some of the floor.  We shall see!!!  Stay tuned....

Splish Splash, I was takin' a bath...

More washing this weekend.  Mark was working, so I asked Mom to help me do some more cleaning of the exterior.  Finally found the ladder and a little more hose!  We were able to clean up to the awning rail and the rear side.  I think one more trip to the farm, and she'll be completely washed.  I know I'm going about this a little bass-ackward, but Saturday was the first time I was able to lay eyes on the top.  Apparently the roof has been sealed with something that will need to be stripped eventually.  That is going to be QUITE an undertaking....one that we may enlist the help of the pros.  We'll see.  Including a photo of the lovely cicadas that have plagued us this summer.  At times, their song was deafening, almost maddening.  Thankfully they are dying off...but not without leaving behind some serious damage to my parent's blueberry bushes and some trees.
